Garage sale finds, befores and afters.

Here are a few items I found at garage sales and have redone.  A little spray paint and fabric can do wonders.

A desk drawer that was free.

Turned into a cute kitchen wall hanging.

That's all for now.....more later.

My sister Charlotte and I ventured out for 2 days for the route 30 sale.  We got rained out Thursday afternoon, but started again on Friday.  Here's a look at all our vintage goodness.

Here is the haul that I found.

An old universal scale, sewing machine drawer, jar of buttons.

Old black tool box

Jar of buttons....actually a lamp

Unusual grater, made is Austria.

A girls gotta work out!

Stash of quilting books

Charlotte found this shelf to use by her sewing machine and a cute lattice tray.

Pickers Heaven!

I hit some garage sales this weekend.  Got some awesome vintage goodness.  The first one was in a guys garage, nothing was marked, but once I got looking he had some really cool things....and great prices.
A cute footstool....I will peel off the loose veneer, spray paint it black and recover the top with an old feed sack.

Vintage French vocabulary cards, a cast iron soap dish and a fleur de lis mirrored hook
and 2 drawer fronts that are from a Singer sewing machine.

Really cool key plates, miniature spoon and fork, old glasses in a leather case, and old rulers

                                                                         close ups!

An old mop bucket that will soon be a planter!

The 2nd sale I ran across by accident and it was like a block from my house....more treasures!
The tray and tall box I will spray paint black and stencil a prim star on them.
A couple of collage boxes, silver spoons, nested boxes to decoupage.

Love the little black tiles with letters, but not an "S" in the bunch,
but I still spelled some cool words with them!

Craft Show Goodies

Here are a few samples of things I made for the two craft shows I did this year.  I had a selection of adult as well as childrens aprons.  Pretty Pockets which are designed to hold a gift card. Mugs Rugs and purses.

This is a purse organizer and matching wallet. The organizer contains
a notepad and pen and 4 pockets to keep receipts, coupons, gift cards all organized.

These are my Pretty Pockets, made from a brown grocery bag. Each contains
a notebook and 2 blank note cards. The front has a pocket to slip in a gift card.
This one says..."If the shoe fits....buy the matching purse"

A tote for a kindle fire

A cute mug rug....bigger than a coaster but smaller than a placemat.
A great place for your drink and a snack.

Sisters Sewing Soiree 2012

Two of my sisters from North Carolina came up for a visit this week, joining me, plus another sister and our mom.  All the sisters brought their sewing machines and projects to work on . My sister in Columbus hosted this year and had recently converted her basement to a sewing room.  We always have a great time. Most nights we sewed until at least midnight....and usually ending the evening with lots of laughs and a rousing game of Mexican train dominos.  Here are some of our projects.
Janies Spider Web Quilt top, that green border really made it "POP"

Diana's Flower Quilt, she colored the flowers with crayons and trimmed each with black rick rack

Here's the bag I finished when I got home. It still needed something...I decided a fabric rose was just the ticket.

Close up of fabric rose.

The purse from hell is finished.  This started out to be a totally different bag. I had so many things so wrong, it almost ended up in the trash!

So sorry I didn't get a pic of Charlottes tablecloth.  It is a beautiful bird print she is making for moms table.  I will get a pic when she brings it to mom.

Thank you to my "sew sisters"  for such a great time, hugs to all!

Mini Collage Quilts

I have tried 3 times to make this post.....so here we go again.  I am just going to  type and add the photos and not try to move stuff around cause that just isn't workin for me.

I have had the idea in my brain for a while and decided to experiment on a collage quilt.  I have used a variety of mediums; fabric, paper, ribbon, buttons, lace doilies and old keys and some old jewelry.  I think there's a name for that...maybe mixed media.   I really like the look, a little vintage, a little retro.  The one with the spoon was really fun to do.  I love the little vintage hangers.  I found these online a long time ago, not knowing exactly what I would do with them.  Now that I came up with this idea, I am having trouble finding them.  The website I got the first ones from no longer carries them.  So I e-mailed the wholesaler to see if they had them and ask if I bought a dozen, would they give me a discount.  Well, it turns out they only had a handful left, but they sent me what they had at only 3.00 each (I paid 4.00 for the first ones).  They are trying to find a manufacturer in China to make them.  They told me a scrapbook company wanted to order 6000 of them if they ever find someone to make them.  I hope they work it out!   I will be selling these at a craft show I am doing at Clear Fork School on November 14th.  I will also have aprons and purses to sell.  I'll leave the big quilts to my three "sew sisters", and I'll stick to these little ones!
